Magpie stare by DeeOtter Magpie stare by DeeOtter
It's sooo hard to resist this adorable face and give him a sandwich.
Had lunch at a picnic area and were welcomed with magpies.
The magpies were welcome to anything that may have fallen out of said sandwich.
And I take forever to eat said sandwich when there are corvids hopping around the table.
Corvids are resourceful birds, so hopefully these guys are too habituated into getting their food from picnics, or else winter will be a very tough time for them (since nobody really picnics in the winter).

They are very cute, especially when they are all puffed up to keep warm.
We're having a pretty bad cold spell right now, especially at night, and I just want to go outside and catch all of the birds who stay for the winter and bring them inside. But I'm still seeing birds the next morning so they're finding somewhere to keep warm.

I always saw magpies as naughty creatures, who scream from 'dusk til dawn' and steal other's birds eggs and destroy nests, but this photo made me think they also could be cute!

Given the chance they may raid a nest for eggs.
But they have a lot of pretty neat things to their name.
They make a lot of pretty neat sounds once you get past all of the yapping. And the babies are just adorable! Unless it's 5 in the morning and you're waking up to the youngsters going 'FEED ME!'

It's SOO hard to resist just giving them my sandwich...but I know none of it could be good for them. Maybe the lettuce if it was the organic kind. But then again corvids eat all sorts of random things.

Yeah, that's true - but it is hard to not feed them. I'm not even sure if they'd take the lettuce. They're probably pickier than that.

That could be true. The ravens that hang out at the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery center toss away lettuce when they're raiding the bear food.
