The year of the Dragon is over (sad to see it go, I'm a dragon) and the year of the Snake is upon us! Snakes often get a bad rap from a lot of people due to misconception. Not all snakes are venomous (though this one above is) and more than often snakes would rather get away from you rather than pick a fight. They're not slimy (those would be hagfish, which are not snakes...nor really fish) some are just shiny and smooth (I duno what the vipers feel like) And where they occur naturally they're a natural pest control (I say naturally because snakes can cause chaos where they are introduced and potentially wipe out vulnerable species that did not evolve with these predators). And some snakes are even pretty cute .

it's fascinating to see how snakes blend in with their surroundings.. : D my 4th grade teacher had a ruby tailed boa about 3~4 meters long... she brought her to school once and loosed her upon all of us...it was awesome! We all took turns touching her XD
I have a rough-scaled snake like this guy up here. He's a western hognose. They still feel smooth, but just a tad raspy, just very slightly rough. Still pleasant to hold. I like the framing of this shot, how he seems to be coiled in the entire frame. His triangle face markings add to the composition, too, drawing attention to his eye. Very pretty.
Thanks! I haven't had the pleasure of having a snake myself. When I was in high school taking marine biology I'd always have one of the instructors boas with me during lectures and tests. The snakes have to stay in their terrarium when we were doing dissections. But they were awesome snakes. They'd be content coiling around my left hand and just hanging out for the class period.
