I think this is the first bird show I've attended this year. Tis the season for bird shows and the like to start. Peregrines are the fastest bird when diving for their prey, so it's no wonder it's hard to get a shot of them. Especially when they are right above you.

Peregrine falcon
Falco peregrinus

I'm also confused on what that blue stuff in the clouds is

Yup. I had no idea I got any pictures of the falcon flying around. Wasn't so lucky with the barn owl.

Yup. This was taken during a bird show at Woodland Park Zoo, and they had a few birds flying around. One of them was a barn owl and I didn't have much luck getting a flight shot of that bird.

What blue stuff in the clouds?
Also, great shot! I just attended my first bird show with falcons last weekend and now I know firsthand how hard it is to get a clear shot of them! :faint:

It's even harder when it's really free flight and they're flying around in the air, which is neat, but very difficult to get a shot of. The bird show at the zoo I visit just has the birds landing on perches, so I pretty much know their rout and it's not as hard. I just have to watch out for people walking into the shot.

Yeah, that was the kind of show mine was! They have radio things clipped on to the birds in case they get distracted by a wild rabbit or something :XD: Once they lost one of their kites, but it turned out she had just found a bucket of KFC in the nearby park and was enjoying that instead of the treats from the show.

Nice capture. 1/1250 shutter speed. Well done to get that much detail that fast.

I think the 1/1250 speed was by chance. She was flying around between the sky and ground which was a bit darker because of the shadows and colors. I was really thinking that this was going to be super blown out beyond recovery.

What's the deal with that string attached to one of the legs? Do you know what sort of equipment that is? Great shot though; I know how hard it is to get peregrines in flight!

They look like jesses to me. A lot of large captive birds that I see that are often taken out on educational trips or used in shows wear these.

I guess they're jesses. Looking closer, it seems like they might not just be attached to one of the legs. Still seems like a bad idea to fly a bird with slitted jesses, but she is an education bird and not a hunting bird.

Yeah. She flies in shows and dives after a lure.
Most birds I've seen that are in some sort of program always have on some sort of anklet around their feet. But I'm not too familiar with the equipment itself, just the name.
