Cute goose by DeeOtter Cute goose by DeeOtter
Adorable goose.
Sooo many people think that they're ducks because they're not as large as the Canadian geese in the continental states.
(They're also really really soft)

Nene Hawaiian Goose
Branta sandvicensis
Akron Zoo, Akron OH

Beautiful picture.
I was actually really surprised to see a Nene deviation in my messages, since they're not very common. I love the details you can see in this shot, too bad the yellow-orange on the cheeks/neck isn't very bright. The colors can be really pretty.

They're pretty awesome birds. I think I've only seen them in 2 places, Winston and Akron.
I'd love to go to Hawaii and see some on the islands.

Wow, that's cool.
As far as I know, the only place you can really go to see wild Nenes on the islands is Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. (I live in Hawaii, only on the main island (Oahu) though.) A friend of mine who goes to see relatives on Hawaii said that the Nene hang around the parking lots up there sometimes.

That's awesome. I had a friend who went to Hawaii not long ago and he managed to see a handful of geek at the Volcanoes National Park.
Hopefully some day I'll make it over there.
