The chickadees are nesting! Or will be soon. Found this one cleaning out a cavity that was most likely made by a woodpecker (maybe a downy).
Spring is just around the corner. I also spotted 2 song sparrows and I swear I keep hearing robins (which are oddly enough semi-migratory for Montana)

It's great. How close to the nest were you when you took that photo?

PD: (This question sounds as if it is horribly written, I don't know why...)

Not too far away. The tree that had the cavity was about 5ft or so away from the walking trail. The photo is a bit cropped in because I ended up shooting towards the sun so the background was really blown out.

Mmmmhh, I see. I reckon it's difficult to take a photo like that with a standard camera, isn't it ?

A little bit. I blame the internal light sensor. If it measures how much light is in the sky instead of on the bird/tree then the camera will expose for that (if it's on auto) and the bird/tree will be almost black.

That happens to me a lot, specially when I'm taking a photo inside a building with windows or acess to sunlight. But just because I never read the instructions manual of anything I don't know how to fix it....

They are just about everywhere in town, both black-capped & mountain chickadees. I do miss the chestnut backed chickadees.

Big cities stink for finding them around. Here they just frequent feeders or regular feed locations.

Or when you do find them they're at the very top of the tree, and the tree has no low branches x.x
